Following Chris’ completion of the London Marathon, he has put together a few words about his achievement:
On Sunday I signed something else off the bucket list as I completed the London Marathon.
This is a race I’ve always wanted to run but like many others thought I could never run that far!! I started running in January 2011 as a New Year resolution and followed a run/walk program. As the months passed I progressed towards a three mile run and that when it all started….
I joined the Chippenham Harriers in the spring of 2012 on the beginners course and quickly caught the running bug as the weeks passed I found I was getting quicker and buy the end of the 9 week course I had managed to complete the 5k river run in 20:38.
I gained strength from running 10ks and half marathons and took the plunge and gave Bournemouth Marathon a bash in Oct 2013. In 2014 I completed the Great Welsh marathon as I felt I had unfinished business with the marathon and came home with a PB of 3:07:59.
Sunday felt like the end of a journey and I have got to say it was an amazing experience, the crowds were so loud along the whole route and running down the Mall at the end was something else. I now have a London medal that I will treasure for ever and memories of a fantastic day that I will never forget.
For those of you that love the stats, Chris was in the top 13% of the total marathon entry and in the top 20% of his catagory, which was one step down from the elite runners!!
Well done Chris!!
